Pikked GW11: Manchester, London and A South Coast Derby
Updated: Jan 7
Dear Pikked players, We hope you enjoyed game week 10. The clash between Manchester United and Southampton was by far the most thrilling. James Ward Prowse continues to impress for the high-flying Saints. Another superb freekick from the young English man was the pick of the goals in all of the fixtures. This wasn't the end of the story at Saint Mary's though. Edinson Cavani was brought on at the half time by Solksjaer. Bruno Fernandes got United's first and then Cavani got on the end of the Portuguese strike to level the game up. Cavani and United had the last laugh when he expertly pounced at the near post to slot a late header home past Alex McCarthy. Thrilling game. Tottenham Hotspur had another tough fixture against Chelsea. In typical Mourinho fashion, Spurs kept a clean sheet and were probably the happiest of the two teams to get a draw. Chelsea missed some great opportunities and to be fair to Frank Lampard he threw on his attacking talent to try to win the game. Great to see Christian Pulisic on the pitch again. If the American can stay fit, then he will be ready to light up the Premier League again. The only downfall of last week was the horrific head injury sustained by Raul Jimenez. The Wolves forward clashed heads with David Luiz and was rushed to hospital as a result of this. Jimenez is in good health thankfully but has suffered from a skull fracture. Our hearts go out to him!
Chelsea to beat Leeds This could be a risky pick. Leeds have been impressive since being promoted back to the Premier League. Bielsa's men fear nobody and it wouldn't be a shock if they turn over Chelsea at the Bridge. Nevertheless, Chelsea are bang on inform. An inspiring Olivier Giroud performance saw the beautiful Frenchman score four goals past Sevilla in the Champions League. Frank would be mad not to start him. Chelsea has a plethora of talent in their squad and we cannot see Leeds scoring past Chelsea's resolute defence.
Manchester United to beat West Ham A tough one to call again. West Ham comes into the game on good form. They managed to fend off Aston Villa last game week. David Moyes has just penned a new contract at the London Stadium and will want to continue their run. Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United will be bang up for this game though. The Red Devils showed glimpses of class in the Champions League against a strong Paris side. Yet, they were sunk 3-1. Nonetheless, Ole's men seem to be stringing some performances together in the league where they have now entered the top half of the table. Manchester United's form is nothing to bet on though, so we are a bit worried about this call. Brighton to beat Southampton We throw our neck on the line here. Southampton have been thrilling to watch this season. Their first-half display against Manchester United was nothing short of sensational. Then again, the Saints have flown out of the blocks more than any side in the Premier League this season, their issue is seeing the game out. Brighton are a side in transition under Graham Potter. They outplayed former champions, Liverpool, last weekend and were unfortunate not to win the game. The Seagulls show good form at home in the league and we think without talisman Danny Ings Southampton could suffer defeat. Brighton win!
